Modular Biomass Gasification Plant in Júndiz, Alava (Basque Country) |
The modular biomass plant of 700 kWe is being developed by the Basque company Guascor as a demonstration project at the industry park of Júndiz (Alava), with the objective of offering a flexible solution for different types of biomass, as well as industrial and agricultural waste. The plant will be able to produce electricity using a wide range of biomass, including wood residues, waste from fruit production and wineries, corn, cotton, sugar cane and tobacco, but also compost, effluents from water treatment and solid household waste. Since the plant is composed of modules, its capacity can be adapted to the local resources available in a given location, starting out with a minimum of 0.7 MWe and adding capacity by simply installing more modules.

Energy efficiency at the battery factory SAFT |
The aim of the project is to show which possibilities there are to decrease the use of energy within industry and real estate companies. Several companies have been visited. One of the visited companies was SAFT that produce batteries. Some of the measures were: - Buying steam produced with biomass instead of using own oil boiler => higher efficiency in the heating system and less work for the staff - Improved ventilation and heat exchange - Using surplus of low temperature water to heat buildings (planned)
In a complicated energy system it’s even more important to have an overall view to decrease costs and the use of energy. For example by sharing a steam culvert with the company next door it was possible to decrease the cost and convert the own oil boilers.

Thermal solar installation at the hospital of Ljungby, Sweden |
This solar installation was made in 1988 on the roof of the heating central of the hospital.
The solar collectors, TeknoTerm HT, are of the flat plate type that was developed in Sweden in the early 1980´s. The absorber is of type SUNSTRIP. There is a layer of Teflon in front of the absorber in order to decrease the heat losses. Each collector is 12,5 m² (appr. 6*2m). In this plant there are in total 16 collectors with a total absorber surface of 200 m². The collectors deliver solar energy, via the pipe system and a heat exchanger, to the domestic water system.
The solar energy annual contribution is equivalent to somewhat 20-25 % in average of the total energy demand for producing domestic hot water.
